THAILAND’S LANTERN FESTIVAL
Loy Krathong - The most Romantic Lantern Festival in the World
Get a spot in the shade, but not too close to the trees So many lanterns get caught in the trees,
Don’t buy lanterns from the vendors outside the entrance may look like you’re getting a great deal (Ooh, 3 lanterns for 100 baht!) but don’t fall for it. They won’t let you past security if you have non-regulation lanterns. The official ones cost 100 baht each (about $3 USD). We bought two and it was nice to have a couple to set off.
Night fall is the best time for Loy Krathong festival to get started. The young men and women and sometimes couples with their children holding Krathong at the social outings.
In each of the Krathong is an aromatic candle, fresh flowers and colorful cloth. After the lighting is done, everyone closes their eyes, and pray for peace and happiness for family and loved ones. In addition, many couples get together to drop the lights to pray for enduring love, and marriage.
In some places such as Chiang Mai, this holiday also includes the floating of giant laterns.
